چکیده
Anisotropic gold nanoparticles, especially nanostars, are used in many fields of biomedical applications such as sensing, targeted drug delivery, and diagnostic photothermal therapy. In this study, we introduced a novel application nanostars an antimicrobial agent. While spherical nanoparticles have inappreciable effect, exhibit significant antibacterial activity. Antibacterial, antioxidant activities and cytotoxicity of plants against Propionibacterium acnes
The use of plants to treat skin ailments has strong support in the current trend of drug discovery. Propionibacterium acnes, an anaerobic pathogen, plays an important role in the occurrence of acne. The present study was conducted to evaluate the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities against P. acnes and cytotoxic effects of 48 medicinal plants grown in South Africa. The broth dilution and D...
متن کاملAntibacterial activity of gold nanorods against Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes: misinterpretations and artifacts
The antibacterial activity of gold nanorod (GNR) suspensions of different surface functionalities was investigated against standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes, taking into consideration two commonly "overlooked" factors: the colloidal stability of GNR suspensions upon mixing with bacterial growth media and the possible contribution of "impurities/molecules" in ...
متن کاملIn vitro antibacterial activity of NB-003 against Propionibacterium acnes.
NB-003 and NB-003 gel formulations are oil-in-water nanoemulsions designed for use in bacterial infections. In vitro susceptibility of Propionibacterium acnes to NB-003 formulations and comparator drugs was evaluated. Both NB-003 formulations were bactericidal against all P. acnes isolates, including those that were erythromycin, clindamycin, and/or tetracycline resistant. In the absence of seb...
متن کاملThe Antibacterial Activity of Zno Nanoparticles against Propionibacterium Acnes
Propionibacterium acnes, a gram positive, non motile, non sporulating and microaerophilic bacillus is normally present on human skin that causes acne. The present treatment for acne though effective, has side effects hence there is a need to find a novel and appropriate method to treat acne. The present study evaluated the antimicrobial activity of ZnO (Zinc Oxide) nanoparticles against Propion...
متن کاملSize-Controlled Synthesis of Gold Nanostars and Their Characterizations and Plasmon Resonances
Gold nanostar particles were synthesized using seed-mediated method. Au-seed was synthesized with the diameter of approximately 3 nm and a considerably low STDEV of less than 1 nm. Then, different amount of Au seed was introduced into the growth solution of nanostars and the influence of the changes in concentration of Au seed on the growth process was investigated. The size of gold nanostars i...
